Statistics

Facts and figures are used everywhere in everyday life.  Society uses statistics for weather reports, preparing for emergency and disasters, tracking sales, insurance, in political campaigns and medical research. My husband often speaks about the stats of players in various sports as how well players are performing is important to him to create a fantasy team.  He hopes his team will win against his friends’ teams.  After learning more about the use of statistics, I can see how much I use it.  I am often using the data I am aware of to make decisions.  As a mum, I use statistics in regards to risks of medicine, where my children are performing academically, average ages for milestones.  Statistics is often associated with the presentation of data, through graphs and tables.  This can be useful to show relationships between data.

Check out this blog on why it is important to be statistically literate.
